Oral Histories
Rossmann Oral History

The Kathleen Lonsdale paragraph has one small error.
Kathleen was on the board of governors of the high school I attended
(a Quaker school and she was a prominent Quaker). She gave the school
a few tickets for the lucky ones to attend the annual Christmas lectures
at the Royal Institution for high school students. That year
they were given by the astronomer Royal. But it was in this way that
I got to know Kathleen who took us around the basement of the Royal
Institution where Michael Faraday used to work. Later I turned to her
for help to find a research lab. That's when I started reading the
book by Bunn.

I heard Kathleen lecture a number of times while I was a student
in London. It was difficult for students to follow her lectures.
In contrast Sir Lawrence Bragg was terrific, and an example
for me even to-day.
