RESEARCH INTERESTS
Curriculum Vitae -
Speech intelligibility of hearing-impaired children, speech perception by hearing-impaired listeners
Dr. Uchanski’s general research interest is the perception of speech and non-speech by listeners with normal and impaired hearing. She is particularly interested in listeners with impaired hearing who use cochlear implants. Her current research projects include 1) a study of the ability of cochlear implant users to perceive emotion in speech and to discriminate amongst different talkers, and 2) a comparison of complex-pitch perception abilities between congenitally-deaf children who received a cochlear implant at a young age (< 18 months old) and post-lingually deafened adults who received a cochlear implant as adults.
