BJC Forum on Issues Surrounding Medical Error Disclosure
March 3, 2004
The BJC Patient Safety Council is proud to present our 3rd Patient Safety Educational Forum on March 3, 2004. The topic is "Issues Surrounding Medical Error Disclosure".
This forum is designed for physicians, nurses, senior leadership, risk managers, department/unit managers, and all other interested health care workers. In addition to an overview of error disclosure including the rationale for disclosure and the healthcare team's role in the process, results of recent BJC/Washington University research will be shared. This research includes findings on attitude about disclosure as well as what physicians and nurses personally want/need following a significant event. A discussion on the national trends regarding disclosure will be presented by the 2004 President of the American Society of Healthcare Risk Management. Several demonstrations of actual disclosures will be also provided.
As in the past, we are offering a morning session (8-11:15 a.m.) at the Eric P. Newman Educational Center on Euclid Avenue, and an afternoon session (1-4:15 p.m.) at Christian Hospital NE's Atrium.
The attached brochure describes the agenda as well as the faculty. A total of 3.5 AMA Category 1 credits have been applied for through Washington University School of Medicine. Also attached is the forum's registration form.
Note: Completion of the attached registration form is required in order to register!!
The last day to register is: February 25.
If you have questions regarding the forum's content, please contact me. If you have questions regarding the registration process, please contact my secretary Terri Bolden at 314-286-0418 or tab3846@bjc.org.

Clineguide and Medweaver Added To Ovid Databases
Two new decision support tools have recently been added to our complement of Ovid database options. They are Clineguide™ and Medweaver™, and were on trial over the last month, but are NOW functionally available using your own Ovid username and password.
Clineguide is the revolutionary point-of-care, clinical decision support system that delivers fast, intuitive access to patient- and disease-specific recommendations on disease management and drug treatment. It answers over 80% of routine clinical questions.
Medweaver is a web-based facilitator, integrating powerful differential diagnosis tools with diverse information resources to generate personalized answers for healthcare professionals. This decision support tool enables clinicians, students to:
enter symptoms and perform a differential diagnosis, review a profile for each disease in the differential diagnosis, obtain an explanation as to why a disease was included on the differential diagnosis list, perform an assisted search of Ovid MEDLINE and Ovid Full Text for a selected disease, and explore vetted medical Web sites related to each disease.
Becker Library recommends full usage of these new resources by the Washington University School of Medicine community and that you let us know what you think.
In addition the library invites interested faculty, clinical staff and researchers to a demonstration of Clineguide by Dr. Mike Maunsell, one of its developers, and our Ovid product representative on August 29, 12-1pm in the King Center, 7th Floor, Becker Medical Library. For further information please contact the reference desk at 362-7058, Neville Prendergast at 362-2782, Carol Murray at 362-4736, or send e-mail to reference@medicine.
